In the manufacturing process of high-quality glass, the temperature of molten glass is measured using a protective tube with a high-purity platinum cap. High purity platinum has a high melting point and excellent chemical resistance. It is resistant to corrosion and oxidation and protects the alumina protective tube from erosion by molten glass.
Solution
Thermocouple with platinum cap
- Thermocouple
- Daily life
- Furnace
Features
High-purity recrystallized alumina is used for the protective tube of the thermocouple used in glass melting furnaces, but a high-purity platinum cap is attached to the point where the molten glass comes into contact with the protective tube to improve corrosion resistance and extend the service life. Platinum caps can be made from ZrO2, which is expected to last longer than conventional platinum, or partially coated.
